Defend Against Fraud With Educators Digital Services

Couple using a smartphone to learn about Digital Service options.

No one expects to fall for a scam. It’s a scary experience that can make you feel like you’ve lost control of an essential part of your life: your finances. As scams continue to evolve, so do the digital services that we offer our members. Rest assured that we provide numerous services in our Online and Mobile Banking designed to help you protect your assets in the face of growing fraud threats.

Turn Cards On and Off

If you ever notice unfamiliar charges on your Educators debit or credit cards, there’s an easy way to put an immediate stop to any additional fraud on your account: turn the cards off! It’s as simple as logging into Online or Mobile Banking, navigating to the Card Management widget under the “Cards” dropdown, and tapping the “On/Off” toggle. No more need to wait to make a phone call to secure your account—it’s all at your fingertips. If you’d like to try a demo of the process, visit our Digital Academy!

Set Travel Notes

Many people consider travel notes a thing of the past. However, it’s the best way to tell your financial that you’ll be out of town (or the country) without any false flags that could leave you financially stranded. Not only that, but when you tell your financial where you are (or aren’t), it makes it all clearer whether they need to flag your card as compromised by a scam. Learn how to set travel notes in our Digital Academy demo.

Create Spending Limits

One of the best ways to stop fraud is to create spending limits on your Educators debit and/or credit cards. If there’s a certain amount you rarely charge onto your card at one time, such as $600 or more, log in to Card Management and set that limit on your card. That way, if your card is ever compromised by fraud, you have a first line of defense to prevent them from making a large purchase. Plus, if you ever do need to spend that much on your card, it’s quick and easy to remove or adjust the spending limit temporarily. Learn how to create spending limits on Digital Academy.

Set Up Balance Alerts

Like creating spending limits on cards, you can set balance alerts on your checking and savings accounts, so you know when they’re running low. Consider it your second line of defense against fraudsters trying to scam you. Learn how to set up balance alerts on Online and Mobile banking on Digital Academy.

Dispute Center

If you find a charge you didn’t authorize on any of your cards, once you’ve turned your card off in Online or Mobile Banking, you can also dispute the specific charge(s) that were put on your account. When you select the transaction, the last button should be the “Dispute” button. Tap it to begin the dispute process!

Rest assured that Educators Credit Union makes the security of your account and your money our top priority. That’s why we offer digital services that allow you to act immediately if you ever notice charges you didn’t make. Remember as a rule: never send money to someone you don’t know and/or haven’t met in person. Stay safe!
