Educators Credit Union receives the Governor's Financial Literacy Award

Educators Credit Union was awarded the 2019 Governor’s Financial Literacy Award for our Reality Check Day program!

Reality Check Day is a hands-on learning opportunity Educators brings to middle school, high school and college students in our service area. Students start the program by selecting a career in the Reality Check Day app. They are assigned a salary based on regional career statistics and randomly get a marital situation, children, pets and a credit score.

Once the students have their profile, they use their net monthly salary to create a budget. Students must visit station and pay for monthly bills, find housing, pick transportation, and more. Reality Check Day is an opportunity for students to practice these skills before leaving school. If students overspend, staff and volunteers work with them to correct their spending and teach the student how to avoid overspending outside the simulation.
