Educators Credit Union opened its doors to 88Nine and the Milwaukee Business Journal for the third annual No Empty Backpacks School Supply Drive. It was yet another successful year, as Educators Credit Union and other Milwaukee businesses were able to collect 50,137 items for students at eight Milwaukee Public Schools elementary schools. That’s 13,000 more items than we collected last year!
This year’s drive started on July 23, when supply drive bins were dropped off at Educators Credit Union branches. People looking to donate could find a list of needed supplies on the 88Nine website. They could then have the supplies shipped directly to 88Nine or drop them off at one of the 27 donation locations throughout the city.
Volunteers then came to 88Nine to help sort the supplies for delivery on Wednesday, Aug. 29. Once they finished, boxes lined the 88Nine studios and waited to be shipped out for the new school year.
The supplies collected were donated to Craig Montessori School, Clara Barton School, Andrew S. Douglas School, Lloyd Barbee Montessori School, Dr. Martin Luther King School, Kagel School, Starms Early Childhood and Ralph H. Metcalfe School in Milwaukee.
Thank you to everyone who donated or helped support this cause. You truly are making a difference in our communities!
