Wedding Planning (Guests Only)

I don’t know about you, but this winter I’ve gotten five different wedding invitations for this coming summer. A few in town, a few in Wisconsin and one out of state, but all needing some serious planning for. Not only do I have to plan for the day but I also I have to plan financially. Attending a wedding can get pricey, especially if you’re planning for multiples over one season.

Here are a few tips for planning for the busy wedding season:

  • Plan the gift early – As soon as you get that invitation, find their registry and decide what you want to gift the couple. This way, you can either save for what you want to purchase or buy it in advance when you have extra cash. If you are traveling far for the wedding, packing the gift in your luggage may not seem plausible. For a relative’s wedding last summer, I ordered the gift off of their registry and there was an option to ship it directly to the couple. That way I didn’t have to try to pack the gift when flying.
  • Map out those travel plans – If you get invited to an out of state wedding, make sure this is plausible for your budget. If you decide on going, check if the couple has a wedding website. If they do, most couples put up suggestions for nearby hotels. Call the hotels and see if they are offering discounts for the wedding guests, that way you won’t have to spend a ton for a night or two!
    • I called a hotel for a wedding in June and learned there was a $50 discount for being a guest of the wedding!
  • Getting around out of state – If you are flying into a different state for a wedding, transportation can be difficult. Sometimes the best options for traveling for a wedding can be packages that include flights, car rentals and hotels. Sometimes the better option is to purchase a package so that you have a car for transportation, whether or not that means the package includes a hotel that is a bit of a commute to the wedding venue.
