Educators Teams Up with the Kenosha Kingfish to Celebrate Teachers

On June 22, 2017, Educators Credit Union and the Kenosha Kingfish teamed up for Teacher Appreciation Day at the ballpark. All teachers who showed their work ID received a free t-shirt as a thank you for all the great work they do.

While all teachers were appreciated, Harborside Academy’s Ken Huissen was the teacher of the game. Huissen was nominated by a parent of one of his students in a contest held by the Kingfish. He said he was happy even to have been nominated.

“I actually feel very honored,” said Huissen. “Knowing that somebody nominated me and it wasn’t just random, I feel honored and pretty lucky.”

For being the teacher of the game, Huissen got to throw out the game’s first pitch. His pitch was sandwiched between some fierce competition, an area little league pitcher and NFL star – and Kenosha’s own – Melvin Gordon.

“I did not know Melvin Gordon was going to go after me,” said Huissen after throwing his pitch. “It was intimidating, and there was a little leaguer going in front of me, and that was maybe more intimidating than Melvin. I think everybody did a good job.”

After the pitch, Huissen was able to relax in the VIP area with friends from work. While he was relaxing, he couldn’t help but be excited for the work year.

“I think I’m going to go back and do more, even above and beyond, this year.”

Educators and the Kenosha Kingfish are teaming up again on Friday, July 7. All kids in attendance will receive an Educators Credit Union coin jar. After the game, the Kingfish are hosting a coin drop, where all the kids will have the chance to pick up a grand total of $250 in quarters off the baseball field.
