Get Ctrl! Help protect against fraud

Have you ever been out and about, doing your errands and then when you go to make a purchase, you realize your credit or debit card is nowhere to be found? Your heart rate instantly spikes and you start freaking out wondering when your account is going to be cleared out by some punk without a shred of decency. So you start to retrace your steps and realize that you left it at a register and it is all OK.

It doesn’t always end up being that easy. Sometimes it can take a while to figure out what happened. Now, there’s a really sweet app called Ctrl (Control, like the keyboard key) from Educators Credit Union. This is a smartphone app that is available through Apple and Android app stores.

What this application does is allow you to do things like turn your cards on and off with a swipe. You can set up geographic areas where you want your card to work, as well as set up alerts for transactions! I’ve had the privilege of testing this app out for a few weeks and let me tell you, I dig it! It literally puts you in control (pun totally intended)!

I highly recommend this app! It’s available now (search “Educators CU Ctrl” in your app store). Having the ability to temporarily turn off my card if I misplace it or forget it somewhere is fantastic. It gives me peace of mind knowing that when I lose my wallet on a Saturday night and cannot reach the credit union until Monday, my money is safe and cannot be jeopardized.

Being able to set up those geographic limits will also help when I travel! It’s still good to tell us when you travel, but having this additional tool to use will certainly help make things easier.

At the end of the day, this application is just going to give us as members more peace of mind. It is a free download, and can be there whenever the credit union is closed. In my humble opinion this is a great step in the right direction and I am excited for you all to try it! So be sure to download it as soon as it is available and tell me in the comments what you think!

  1. How about a Link to get the app? I can’t dime it anywhere! Useless if I can’t look it up on Apple App Store!

  2. I have read so many reviews saying that the app is a waste of time and it dose not work because it has login issues. have these been fixed? I don’t want to waste my time nor will I tell others if it’s not working properly.

    1. Thank you for your question, Sheila. We have had a few updates to the app which have cleared up some of the issues some members experienced. We have a brand new update that will be going out very soon and provide a lot of improvements for the app and additions that members have requested. What I like about the app is I get notifications for all of my transactions and that I can turn my own card on and off, so when I want to buy something on Amazon, I can turn my card on and buy the item, then it turn it back off for online purchases until the next time I want to use it. Having been a fraud victim, it is nice for me to have that control of my cards.

    1. Thank you for your question Susan, when you are in the app store can you double check that the search is for iPhone Only apps and not for iPad apps? If the app still doesn’t appear for you, we can definitely help you set up and install the app the next time you visit any Educators branch.
