The wizard magic of Apple Pay

I am pretty excited to write this post! I get to talk about my experience using Apple Pay. I don’t know if you guys know this or not, but Educators now supports Apple Pay! And if I can say so myself… I kind of dig it! Now before we all bust out the skepticism and hipster jokes, hear me out.

How does Apple Pay work? You go into passbook on your iPhone and there is an option to input your cards. Once the information is entered, the data is encrypted and sent to Apple’s servers so your card information is not actually kept on your phone! It’s pretty neat and I personally think that it is quite secure. I understand people’s hesitations on the system but how secure is it to carry our wallets or purses around? Those can be stolen a lot easier in comparison.

Now, on to the cool part: I was at a store that accepted Apple Pay over the weekend — I will admit that Apple Pay is not widely accepted yet — and I saw the Apple logo on the card reader. I put my debit card away and reached for my phone. My heart started to flutter and I felt like a kid at the candy store. I pulled out my phone, hovered it over the reader and BAM! It said “done!” on the screen and I left with my purchase. It was like some sort of wizard magic that I couldn’t understand, but I loved it! There was a simplicity about the whole experience that I really enjoyed.

The purchase updates in Educators’ Online Banking pretty fast and you don’t have to worry if you forget your wallet! I look forward to the day when I can go completely card-less and just carry my phone around. Has anyone else tried Apple Pay yet? Do you know of any cool stores that are accepting Apple Pay? Let me know in the comments!
